When we visited Cairo in 2016, we stayed on the 14th floor of an apartment building near to Cairo University. Every Friday, a group would congregate on our street for Islamic worship. From our vacation rental in Nazlet a-Sammam that we stayed in on our 2014 trip to Egypt we could hear the call to prayer (or adhan) in Cairo. Calls to prayer vary from country to country. In Tunisia, we almost never heard the call to prayer, and had to strain to hear it even in Tunis.
