Places to Visit in Beijing: Amazing Whistler at the Forbidden City

One of the things I remember most about trying to find the entrance to the Forbidden City was this whistler. He was passionate about what he was doing as we walked by. I didn't want to stop and gawk at him since most of the people outside in Beijing were doing something extraordinary, but this guy had a real gift!Related Posts:

China Scams: Art Students Target Beijing Tourists at the Forbidden City

One of the common scams in China involves so-called "art students". They befriend tourists and then offer them work-of-art-knock-offs. As we walk around the outer walls of the Forbidden City, people do Tai Chi in the open spaces, music plays, and we wander around trying to find an entrance gate. ...

Beijing Tourism: In Search of the Forbidden City

On our first try getting into the Forbidden City, we walked all around the outer walls trying to find an entrance with fewer people cued up to go in. It just didn't make sense to us that Beijing-ers would be going to the Forbidden City en masse on a random Saturday. We thought perhaps there was a special event and that maybe the entrance to the Forbidden City was located elsewhere. In this video, we ...

Places to Visit in Beijing: Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City

In this video, we finally find Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. It seems simple enough when looking at a map, but in practice, finding our way to these two tourist destinations wasn't clear-cut. A lot of the other tourist attractions in Beijing were similar in terms of finding our way around. Things weren't marked well in English and when they were, they didn't make sense.Related Posts:<br ...

Beijing Tourism: Still Trying to Find the Entrance to the Forbidden City Part II

The entrance to the Forbidden City eluded us. Was it really that hard to find it? Probably not, but we were in denial that the super-extra-long line that we'd seen in Tiananmen Square led into the Forbidden City. For some reason, it just didn't make sense. So we wandered around the outer walls of the Forbidden City for over an hour before giving up. As it turns out, there were lots of interesting things to ...

Beijing Tourism: White People Picture Craze

Lots of Beijing-ers asked to have their photo taken with us. It seemed strange at first, but then we kind of got onto it. After riding the subway for a few days, it became immediately apparent that there were very few other white people in Beijing. All of them stood about a foot taller than the Chinese locals on the subway. So this was probably why people wanted their photos taken with us. Because we were ...

Windsor Castle: important because it’s extravagant or extravagant because it’s important? — By Jennifer Shipp

The day after we arrived in London, we packed up our belongings and stacked the luggage outside the Holiday Inn Express hotel where we’d stayed the night before. John pulled our rental car around from the parking area and we shoved everything that we could into the trunk and whatever was left into the back seat. We were grouchy and jetlagged and hadn’t really been properly nourished for at least 48 hours. ...
