When we visited Athens, Greece in February 2015 we made sure to see the Parthenon and the Acropolis. We were excited to
finally see these sites! The Acropolis and the Parthenon are a part of the same complex (the Parthenon is
inside the Acropolis), but we separated the photos into two different segments. To see the photo gallery with our photos from the Acropolis, go

Our first view of the ruins, specifically the Erechtheion. The Parthenon was to the right behind the column.
We had to take a selfie at the Parthenon…

The view from below at the other ruins at the Acropolis was amazing, but it was even more incredible from the Parthenon.
We spent some time looking out at Athens from the Parthenon.
This sign talks about the Erechtheion, a structure situated nearby to the Parthenon at the Acropolis.
The Erechtheion at the Acropolis is a building that is famous, but not talked about very often. It sits on the same hill with the Parthenon.

Most people know the Erechtheion from this section of it where statues of women function as columns.

This sign talked about the “opisthonaos” or “rear porch” of the Parthenon. At the time, it was being restored.

From on top of the hill at the Parthenon, we could see the surrounding ruins of the Acropolis, such as the Theater of the Dionysus.
A cannon that we took a picture of mostly because of the pretty calico kitty sitting on top of it. Greece is a cat place, for sure. All over the Acropolis we saw cats milling about, just hanging out.
A more open area atop the hill at the Parthenon.
The Greek flag can be seen in the distance.
We didn’t see the Greek flag a lot during our trip to Athens. The sighting of the flag at the Acropolis was one of the few times we saw it.
From the point with the Greek flag, we were able to look out at all of Athens. In this picture, you can see the Temple of Zeus (the green patch with ruins).
Athens doesn’t have many skyscrapers; most the buildings lay pretty low.
Standing outside the Acropolis Museum. Right outside there’s a balcony that overlooks ruins that are below the museum.
