When we visited Athens, Greece in February 2015 we made sure to see the Acropolis and the Parthenon. Because we visited in the winter months, there weren’t as many tourists. The Acropolis and the Parthenon are a part of the same complex (the Parthenon is
inside the Acropolis), but we’ve separated our photos into two different segments. To see the photo gallery with our photos from the Parthenon, go

The Stoa of Eumenes at the Acropolis in Athens. This was one of the first things we saw at the Acropolis.

To get to other sites at the Acropolis, one had to walk through the Stoa of Eumenes first.
A headless statue inside the Stoa of Eumenes at the Acropolis in Athens. The ruins themselves were labeled, but the most of the statues remained nameless. Our later visit to the Acropolis Museum would illuminate some things about the ruins.
Overlooking the city of Athens from atop the hill at the Acropolis.
The Odeon of Herodes Atticus at the Acropolis. There was a separate path that went up behind this structure so you could see it from a different view. On top of the hill was the Stoa of Eumenes.

Looking down at the Theater of Dionysus. Although the Odeon of Herodes Atticus was off-limits for climbing and exploring, you were able to sit on the stone seats at the Theater of Dionysus and look out at Athens.
Next to the Propylon of the Sanctuary of Dionysus is the Theater of Dionysus at the Acropolis in Athens.

A helpful stone sign to indicate what the site is (the Theater of Dionysus). The stone signs on the ground helped focus attention on the ruins, and didn’t detract from the energy… the metal, modern signs tend to mess with the majesty of ruins (in Lydian’s opinion).
The frescos along what would’ve been the stage at the Theater of Dionysus at the Acropolis in Athens.
Just outside the Theater of Dionysus was a statue of the Greek playwright Menander.

There were some ruins below the glass. This picture also shows the lights that light up the Acropolis at night.

The Odeon of Herodes Atticus overlooked the city of Athens from a hill directly below the one where the Acropolis sits.
There were lots of people at the Acropolis, but not as many as there were at the ruins in Rome.

A hole in the ground at the Acropolis. We weren’t sure what this was exactly.
