In Beijing, flying kites isn’t just something that people do for fun. It’s both a tradition and a sport.

The International Kite Festival is held annually in Beijing, apparently bridging cultures since the practice of flying kites is something that people do all across the world.
We hadn’t done a lot of kite flying before this, so John helped Lydian initially.
It was so easy to get the kites up in Beijing. People flew kites all the time, day and night there (at least in the spring time when we visited).
Beijing has excellent kite-flying weather. The kites just go right up.
At Yongdingmen Square, people did Tai Chi every morning. One day, we decided to fly kites there.
Flying kites in Yongdingmen Square in Beijing was an activity we hadn’t considered doing when we first set out on our trip to China.
Don’t underestimate the “Fun Factor” of flying a kite in Yongdingmen Square in Beijing. The air currents are perfect and the kites are truly works of art.
Flying kites and watching other people fly kites was one of the most unforgettable experiences we had in Beijing.
