We started taking online Arabic lessons while in Tunisia. We’d tried using French to communicate (since both French and Tunisian Arabic are spoken in Tunisia), however they’d had somewhat unsatisfactory experiences. People expected us to speak French, and reacted negatively when we did. So, we started learning Arabic and made an effort to communicate with the locals in Arabic whenever possible. We tried to find an Arabic language school in Tunis, but we weren’t able to. So, we found an Egyptian instructor online who taught us Modern Standard Arabic. In this video, Lydian is working with this Arabic instructor from our vacation rental in Tunis.
