It was impossible to safely get footage inside the subway during rush-hour in Beijing when we were packed into the cars like sardines. I didn’t want to risk breaking the camera. Squeezing through those doors as the woman with the calm voice says that the doors are going to close is definitely not an experience for squeamish people. Inside the subway, the smell of “breath” would fill the cars when they were packed shoulder-to-shoulder like that. We stood a foot taller than everyone else and looked out across a mass of black hair at other foreigners who also stood a foot taller than everyone else. This video shows the inside of the subway, during a less frantic time of the day, with people going in and out at Fangzhuang Station and on their way to Shilihe Station.
