Navigating the Beijing Subway is pretty straightforward, but during the busiest times of the day, you have to force yourself through the doors with a mass of people. Everyone crowds on and off the subway at the same time, so we had a protocol with Lydian. If she got left behind she was to stay at the station where we got separated. Otherwise, it would’ve been really hard to find her. When the doors on the subway open and close, there’s a lot of urgency to get on or get off and people pack themselves into the cars very, very tightly. In this video, Lydian talks about how crowded it gets on the metro as we ride on the subway back to the Puhuangyu Station near our hotel, the Yongdingmen.
