This pilgrimage near Guanajuato, Mexico took place on January 30th, 2017. Maybe it’s the kind of thing that’s ongoing. Honestly, I’m not sure. The Cristo Rey statue is located on a mountain overlooking the city of Guanajuato and these pilgrims may have been making their way to the Jesus statue. The statue of Christ in Guanajuato is second in size only to the Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil (one of the 7 wonders of the modern world). We haven’t been there yet, but some of the older locals speak glowingly of it. I can see it from my window as I write this…a tiny little spire on a purple mountain in the distance.
