The White Desert in Egypt, Part II

The White Desert is a strange place with landforms that are hard to comprehend and a social dynamic that’s decidedly rural. Check with the Egyptian government before traveling there. Local tour agencies took a big hit when eight Mexican tourists were shot (or bombed…it depends on who you talk to) by the Egyptian military on their way to the White Desert. Now, there’s a lot of competition for tourists and tour agencies won’t necessarily be honest with you about whether it’s legal for you, as a foreigner, to be there or not.
