Delhi: Monsoon Rains in the City

The monsoon in Delhi leads to flooded streets. Given that there are all kinds of unmentionables in the street, including trash, cow poop, human poop, and who knows what else, it’s kind of gross to walk through the water. We always tried to do all our grocery shopping before the skies started to get cloudy during the monsoon season. There are plenty of diseases that you can catch just by having your skin exposed to dirty, contaminated water (like liver flukes, for example, though I’m not sure if there’s a problem with flukes in Delhi) so it pays to avoid the torrents of flowing filth if you can.
